A New Year’s Non-Resolution!

Happy New Year! I hope you are having an excellent start to 2022 and there are not too many sore heads this afternoon. As I was on call last night I had a quiet and sober one, but still manage to stay up far too late watching films and now feel as tired as I might have done if I had been drinking. A lazy 1st of January is in order I think…

This year, I have kept up my annual resolution tradition of not making a resolution (I know what you’re thinking…). This is my 34th year and I am still going strong at sticking to it!

I have decided there is one thing I plan to do over the next month or two, which is definitely not a resolution but…, I did get a lot of books for my birthday and Christmas which are now nicely piled up beside my bed. The plan is to read them all, and tell you about them I am sure, before I am allowed to buy any more. Given my love of buying new books, this will be a challenge.

The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice one of the books is a cookbook, one a puzzle book and another a note book. I probably won’t read these from cover to cover (well I could very quickly read the note book cover to cover, but might be best I actually use it for writing instead!) but I might try a few of the recipes out to see how they go, and run through a couple of puzzles here and there.

My plan is to start with Kindred by Rebecca Wragg Sykes, a book about Neanderthals I have been wanting to read for a little while. I just need to finish Pagan Britain by Ronald Hutton which I started before Christmas. As you can see I am nearly there (most of the end of the book is references) so should be able to get started on my non-resolution very soon!

Do you make/have you made resolutions for the New Year? Do they include reading or writing more? Let us know in the comments below. And once again, wishing you all a very Happy New Year!
